Söderhamn Eriksson
A century of experience and enormous know-how
The history of Söderhamn Eriksson stretches back to the 1800s. The experience accumulated during the years, along with continual technical development and the ability to satisfy customer’s requirements over time, has put Söderhamn Eriksson into a globally leading position when it comes to offering the market the absolute best. The company’s roots go back to two separate companies who both achieved world-wide renown through their products. Co-operation between the two companies, A K Eriksson and Söderhamn’s Verkstäder, began as early as the seventies and developed into a merger in the beginning of the nineties. The result was Söderhamn Eriksson. Söderhamn Eriksson is part of the Cellwood group. However, their history goes back much further.

Söderhamn’s Verkstäder was established in 1864 as Wändinge Gjuteri. A change of name took place in 1941. From the beginning the company has always developed and manufactured cutting machines, however for many years the company was also known for its gang saw used in the wood pulp industry. The Cambio debarking machine was introduced in the 50s and since then it has been synonymous in the sawmill industry throughout the world with debarking machines. For many years the gang saw was the main product on the cutting side. Through the introduction of reduction technology in the 60s and its subsequent combination with bandsaw technology, a further concept in cutting was created – the reducer bandsaw. The company was quick off the mark in utilising electronics in developing, amongst other things, the edger optimiser that has become one of the company’s main products.

Despite attempts in recent years to copy us, we are still the best! This is what Alfred Konrad Eriksson, founder of the company with the same name, wrote in an advertisement as early as the 1920s. The text is still correct today. During the years that have gone by, the century old company has constantly maintained its focus on equipment for the cutting of timber, even if there have been other products. Just before the turn of the century, the founder A K Eriksson began to manufacture saw benches for circular sawing, for which he acquired a sound reputation in the Nordic countries. The first bandsaw was introduced onto the market in 1957. The product was developed further and complemented with peripheral equipment of various types. The initials AKE have today reached far and wide around the world and represent a guarantee of advanced technology and high quality bandsaws.
