Söderhamn Eriksson
Successful export business all over the world
Fully 70 percent of Söderhamn Eriksson’s machines are exported. There are subsidiary companies in Norway, Finland, Estonia, England, Germany and Austria. Dealerships can be found all over the world. We have a very successful export business. During the 90s Chile, amongst other countries, has been the recipient of a large proportion of our exports. Chile has invested heavily in its forestry and timber industry and our machines are extremely well suited for their plantation-grown pine. We are noticing anincreased level of interest from other South American countries, says Lars Lindvall, Marketing manager at Söderhamn Eriksson.
Primarily supplying systems
It is primarily supplies of systems that we are dealing with. Other markets that are undergoing growth are Russia and Asia. Scandinavia and Continental Europe are both markets in which Söderhamn Eriksson has been well established for a long time. Competition is really tough, but we are maintaining our position well.
By air, land and sea
From the manufacturing units in Sweden, deliveries are made over land by truck within Europe. When it comes to exporting to countries that are a bit further away, deliveries are usually made by boat. For installing and starting up the systems, Söderhamn Eriksson flies out their own qualified installation and start-up supervisor to the relevant country so that the installation proceeds quickly, correctly and efficiently. In conjunction with the start-up the customer’s personnel also receive a thorough on site training. In order to offer our customers the best possible service we have built up stocks of spare parts at our dealerships. Spare parts can be delivered quickly and smoothly at short notice, says Lars Lindvall.
Marketing
As we have been in the market place for a long time we are well known all over the world. The fact that our machines have a good reputation facilitates sales. However, we are not sitting back, we want to be visible. We are going to take part in several large trade fairs every year.
Adapting
When it comes to the export business the requirements of the customer play, as always, a key role. Exports are based on the existing range, however we adapt the machines to the customer according to requirements, since, amongst other things, the density of the raw material can be considerably higher in other markets. The machines are primarily set up for coniferous trees with Nordic dimensions, which provides natural limitations as to the choice of potential customers. Our global presence and export business provides a lot of new ideas and knowledge that we bring home and apply in other geographical areas. It provides an input into further development and a continued successful export business, concludes Lars Lindvall.
